Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of thermodynamical conditions on stem elongation and flowering response in tulip (Tulipa gesneriana L. cvs. Apeldoorn and Golden Apeldoorn produced in Korea.) forcing. The days to flowering was shortened when flower buds of bulbs were differentiated at 23¡É as compared with at 25¡É and at ambient temperature (27-30¡É), and enhanced when bulbs were stored at 2¡É than at 5¡É. For cvs. Apeldoorn and Golden Apeldoorn, last internode and plant height decreased when bulbs were stored at 2¡É for 12 weeks after floral buds initiated at 25¡É. For experiment of forcing temperature, flowering was strikingly promoted by storing bulbs at 5¡É for 12 weeks after floral bud was differentiated at 25¡É and the high day temperature accelerated flowering slightly.
